RAINE REFLECTIONS

Garden

She knelt in the garden
a watering can beside her
plucking deadheads
from the flowers
that she grew
tucking them into her apron
she brushed her hands
of the dirt
and gently watered the plants
new faces would rise again
and smile for a while
in the warm sun
before the wilting displeasure
claimed them too
