Parkade

Sleeping in the stairwell
Of a damp cement parkade
Crumpled in the corner
Left vulnerable and afraid

It don’t matter where you go
Or what you do or what you say
You’re the pariah and the vermin
And that’s your life today

As the people walk on by
They never look your way
They’ll report you to the cops
You're unsightly when you stay

But there once was a time
In a forgotten secret grace
Mama held you in her arms
You were warmed by her embrace

But that’s all just a dream
So distant and out of place
Invisible and discarded
Now lost without a trace
