There was a Light

There was a light
From up above
Illumination bright, white hot,
Like the goddess love
It passed away
In a wink of time
I could not say how long it was
She was never, really mine
I had been blind
I could not see,
Though it shone right through
Every single part of me

Now I am lost
Bereft of time
Banished to the shadows,
Where the aching heart resigns
I carry on,
The memory shrouds
Though I know I never, ever said!
Your sacred prayer aloud!

I have grown cold
I am living proof
What once was, now lost
The conclusion, resolute
Though I fought long
To find this truth
There is no way past
The sweet consoling, lie of youth

I cannot die,
You call to me
I will chart my final course
By the only light I see
I am consumed,
Consigned to be
A river that is swallowed
By a thirsting sea
There was a light
From up above
Illumination bright, white hot,
Like the goddess love
