Vanity

 

He combed his hair
while looking
in the bathroom mirror
realizing,
as he groomed himself,
that none of this could change,
how old he had become.
The fun pizazz,
that little spark
that danced in the corners
of the eyes of the living,
had not winked out,
but faded.
Chuckling to himself,
he put the hairbrush
back down
on the chipped,
laminate vanity top
and clicked out
the light
