RAINE REFLECTIONS

You Want

You want to love her softly
And you want all of her meaning
And it comes to you quite easily
From the centre of your being

But that time is long since over
A mirage on the horizon
You can't see it all that clearly
Straining long after it's gone

You can't seem to shake the longing
Like a tired, homeless beggar
His hands reach out for nothing
While all he wants is shelter

But he'll die starving in the gutter
With the garbage and the vermin
And the eulogy of his nostalgia
Reads like a tired, maudlin sermon

But you want to love her softly
And you want all of her meaning
And it comes to you quite easily
From the centre of your being

 But she's gone
