Before the Frost
A chestnut tree
stands in the meadow
in the fall
before the frost
a harvest moon
sighs from above,
the leaves below
blow gently tossed
Autumn weeps
in mild warning
of summer’s end
and season’s loss
a touch of sadness
walks beside you
as trails fade
from paths we cross
Dreams of smiles
grow ever fonder
pastel memories
and pleasant thoughts;
a makeshift swing
of childhood dreams
amongst the chestnuts
before the frost
