Chinook Salmon

Past the city

of slumbering addicts,

over-priced homes,

and trendy-tight yoga pant cafés,

into the pine-wild needles

of the Rocky Mountains

wide splashing rivers

smiling silver-skin flashes

and maudlin memories

glimmering in the sun

of murdered yesterdays

feeling the refreshing

white-waters’ spray

slapped by brutal grizzly paws

snatching at Chinook salmon

with a mouth full

of ivory possibilities

the river aches of meanings

meandering, rolling,

eroding into

smooth round pebbles

and silty-sands

where hellgrammites

dissolve oxygen bubbles

clinging to stones

like a mother's egg
