Hwy QE

Oil stains, skid marks, and lost shoes
these are the landmarks of the prairies
a sign for Amish furniture
and the smell of cow piss
one hundred and ten kilometres an hour
and the scenery never changes
time and distance endless
insects pound the windshield
like fat drops of rain
a cereal grain desert
with mustard coloured patches
of canola and roadside turnouts
long deserted gas stations
and decaying timbre posts
crooked like hobo teeth
poking up through wild grass
and slutty culverts
but the road hums
and the skies are blue and wide
