Portrait in Charcoal
The Black Sea
dwells within them
liquid-luscious,
dark and deep
reflecting glittering stars;
her eyes,
like those of Ptah,
whose voice alone
birthed a universe,
her whispers, too,
create worlds in him
where smiles of butterfly dust,
flirt with shadows
her laughter
melts his beeswax-heart
her jasmine flame,
soft-mellow and sweet
consumes his Lachesis thread
blackened-ashes falling
from a mushrooming wick
compassion trails behind
with the dusty footprints,
of vine-charcoal sketches
etched in the silent dreams
of a maudlin artist
scratching rough desires
on coarse paper
