Preamble to Hamlet

Broken-back naked,

kicked in the balls,

coughing in the streets

wheezing out

their last breaths,

fatal testaments

to a dying nation’s

crippling denial

doing a great job of

counting crows

and copper coins

stolen from the eyes

of the dying

mothers, fathers

daughters, and sons

old and young alike

in for a penny

in for a pound

every villain knows

the deadliest of poisons

are poured

into the ears

of sleeping victims

revealing the conscience

of the king

and the fall of a nation
